1890 Frank Morgan that played the carnival huckster "Professor Marvel," and The Wizard in The Wizard of Oz (along with 5 other roles) is born today.

1937 Morgan Freeman, (if you don't know who this is, watch a movie), is born today in Memphis Tennessee.

1940 Rene Auberjonois (Star Trek DS9s Odo, and my favorite character of DS9), is born today.

Happy Birthday to all the geeks who are born today. Also, special shout out to my Mom. She works for the local school district and today was her last day of school.

1975 Tahmoh Penikett, (Battlestar Galactica's Karl Agathon among others), is born in Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada.

1988 Ron Howard's fantasy film Willow is released. It stars Warwick Davis and Val Kilmer. I HATE that show.

1954 Stephen Furst, Vir Cotto of Babylon 5, is born in Norfolk Virginia.

1984 V: The Final Battle airs the final part, part 3.

1990 Lewis Galoob Toys introduces the Game Genie cartridge for the NES. This makes the games easier to play.

2009 Star Trek is rebooted with the newly released Star Trek film. It's directed by JJ Abrams. Personally, I love that version.

2012 Maurice Sendak, (the writer and illustrator of Where the Wild Things Are) dies in Ridgefield Connecticut at 83.

1951 The Thing From Another World is released.

1955 Kate Mulgrew, aka Captain Catherine Janeway of Star Trek Voyager, is born today. She is also the first, and so far only female Captain in the Star Trek saga. Here's a tip: If you're going to watch Voyager, watch the first two episodes, then skip to the second season. The first one was like a trail with a LOT of error.

1963 Bruce Harwood (Lone Gunman John Fitzgerald Byers on the X-Files), is born in North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

1871 The Civil Rights Act of 1871 becomes law. Also known as the Ku Klux Klan Act and formally titled An Act to enforce the Provisions of the Fourteenth Amendment, It helps provide equality for all the races. Enjoy your history lesson for the day.

1926 Western Electric and Warner Brothers announce a process to add sound to film. It is called Vitaphone.  Can you believe we didn't have sound in our videos until 1926?? Woah.

1937 George Takei of Star Trek TOS is born in Los Angeles California. He plays Sulu and he is EPIC. The only TOS actor to stay good looking IMO. Happy Birthday!

1967 The Star Trek TOS episode "The City on the Edge of Forever" airs. Most fans think this is the best episode of all time.

1931 William Shatner, the guy from all them Price Line commericals, (oh and isn't he Captain James Tiberious Kirk from Star Trek TOE?), is born. Can anyone tell me why he talks like that? I know straight from the horse's mouth. Correct answer may get a prize.

1935 M Emmert Walsh, aks Captain Bryant in Blade Runner (a cult classic from Ridley Scott), is born in Ogdensburg New York.

1980 Kandyse McClure (Anastasia Dualla from Battlestar Galactica) is born in South Africa. Woah. That's epic.

1948 John de Lancie (Q from Star Trek and Frank Simmons in Stargate SG-1) is born in Philadelphia PA. He doesn't even look that old, and as annoying as Q can be, I LOVE that character.

1950 William Hurt (the AI in Artificial Intelligence, and the Hulk from...Superman *cough*), is born in Washington DC. Yay for DC

1969 Soyuz 4 and 5 preform the first Soviet spacecraft docking, transferring cosmonauts between vehicles.

1995 Star Trek Voyager premiers with the double-episode "Caretaker". FYI: If you ever watch Voyager, watch the first 2 episodes (Caretaker only), and then skip the first season. It makes it better. But you don't have to take my word for it.

1998 Emil Sitka dies. A long-time foil for the 3 Stooges, he was one of only 2 actors to work with all 6 stooges. Does anyone know the name of the other actor to work with all 6 stooges? I posted it on my blog in a Geek History entry. Find it.

1922 Stan Lee, comic book creator of The X-Men, Spiderman, Iron Man, and tons more is born in New York New, York. So nice they named it twice!

1932 Nichelle Nicholas, who played Uhura on Star Trek is born in Robbins Illinois. Can anyone tell me the character's full name? Bet ya can't!

1969 Linux kernel engineer Linus Torvalds is born. Basically he invented Linux in the 90s. And you know you're famous if you have an Asteroids game named after you.

1970 Nicol de Boer, Star Trek DS9's Ezri Dax is born. I've said it before, but Jadzia was much better and leaving for the other show was a mistake.

1963 Terry Farrell DS9's Jadzia Dax is born. Honestly, I think Jadzia is a better Dax that Ezrie. And the actress that plays Jadzia moved on for BECKER. Not a grand choice if you ask me.
