1897 Moe Howard, the founding member of the Three Stooges is born in Brooklyn New York.

1907 The inventor of Velcro, George de Mestral, is born today. Do you know how he got the idea for Velcro? I do!

1940 The first comic strip written by a woman called Brenda Starr is published in Chicago Illinois.

1975 Larry Fine of the 3 Stooges dies in Woodland Hills California after suffering several debilitating strokes.

1978 Kristen Schaal, known for playing Mel in HBO's Flight of the Conchords, is born in Longmont Colorado.

1984 Apple Macintosh first goes on sale with 128 KB RAM for $2,495. That's $4 less than today's Quad-Core. (Tweeted by @thinkgeek)

Today is January 16th and today in Geek History...

1969 Soyuz 4 and 5 preform the first Soviet spacecraft docking, transferring cosmonauts between vehicles.

1995 Star Trek Voyager premiers with the double-episode "Caretaker". FYI: If you ever watch Voyager, watch the first 2 episodes (Caretaker only), and then skip the first season. It makes it better. But you don't have to take my word for it.

1998 Emil Sitka dies. A long-time foil for the 3 Stooges, he was one of only 2 actors to work with all 6 stooges. Does anyone know the name of the other actor to work with all 6 stooges? I posted it on my blog in a Geek History entry. Find it.

Hey guys! Happy Winter Solstice! Today is the shortest day of the year. I guess Summer solstice must be the tallest? Anyways, on to business at hand. Today is December 22nd and today in Geek History...

1914 Emil Sitka is born. A long-time foil for the 3 Stooges, he became one of only 2 actors to work with all 6 stooges. There were 6 stooges? Go fig.

1941 Archibald 'Archie' Andrews makes his first appearance in Pep Comics #22.

1943 Beatrix Potter, Peter Rabbit creater, dies at 77 in England. Not from Harry Potter people. Don't make the same mistake I did.

1948 Samuel L. Jackson (Star Wars, Pulp Fiction, Snakes on a Plane) is born in Washington DC. Happy Birthday!

1963 The Daleks are first introduced to Doctor Who, in the serial The Daleks.
