Today in Geek History

Hey guys. Happy Whacking Day. Today is May 10th and today in Geek History..

Whacking Day is today. From The Simpsons, residents of Springfield bring snakes to the square in town and then club them to death. But of course, Lisa finds a way to prevent this. Always ruining my fun.

1824 The National Gallery in London opens to the public.

1869 The First Transcontinental Railroad, linking eastern to western United States is completed at Promontory Summit Utah. That's near Ogden. I was in a play about the completion of the trans continental railroad. Another fact for you: Once the dedication of the railroad was completed, they had to turn around and fix more than half of the tracks, bridges, and overpasses. They were falling down in the rush to compete things.

1946 The first successful launch of an American V2 rocket at White Sands Proving Ground.

1969 Science fiction author John Scalzi is born.

1975 Monty Python and the Holy Grail is released in the US. If you haven't seen this yet, you are SO deprived in New Mexico.
